Veterans Legal Institute Expands Free Legal Services for Homeless and At-Risk Veterans

Santa Ana, CA – May 19, 2025 – The Veterans Legal Institute (VLI), a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing pro bono legal assistance to underserved veterans, has announced the expansion of its outreach and legal aid services across Orange County.

The expanded initiative will increase access to free legal support for veterans facing eviction, denial of VA benefits, discharge upgrades, and other civil legal issues. VLI’s mission remains focused on restoring dignity and self-sufficiency to those who have served our nation, especially those at risk of homelessness or already experiencing housing insecurity.

“We’re seeing an increase in the number of veterans in crisis who need legal intervention,” said Antoinette Balta, Executive Director of VLI. “This expansion allows us to deepen our reach and help more veterans break down the legal barriers preventing them from achieving stability.”

The program will partner with local shelters, veteran organizations, and VA clinics to provide on-site consultations and workshops. Veterans can also access services virtually, ensuring help is available regardless of their mobility or location.

Last year alone, VLI served over 1,500 veterans and their families. With this new initiative, the organization expects to assist hundreds more in 2025.
